A Reminder for Muslims: Islam Does Not Celebrate Thanksgiving

Any act of worship, praying, food feasting or otherwise that gives “Thanks” to any other than Allah (s.w.t.) places you, My Brother and Sister, outside the fold of Islam. Plain and simple your actions, when you go (because we know you get invited), puts you in the company of idolaters, and we know what Allah tells mankind about that. It is outside the Ideology that is Islam; its belief and practices; and the origins of where this celebratory day is neatly tucked away, and not in the history books in front of young children today.

A "history" lesson today and for all time...

As the first British “Pilgrims” landed on the shores of Massachusetts in 1614, they carried with them small pox, which the native Wampanoag promptly caught, and died.

“In mid-winter 1620 the English ship Mayflower landed on the North American coast, delivering 102 exiles. The original native people of this stretch of shoreline had already been killed off. In 1614 a British expedition had landed there. When they left they took 24 Indians as slaves and left smallpox behind. Three years of plague wiped out between 90 and 96 per cent of the inhabitants of the coast, destroying most villages completely.” - Michael Ely, “Native blood: the truth behind the myth of Thanksgiving Day.”

The English thought the natives' death was “divine intervention”, and began to lay “claim” to the land that had been vacated by the disease. The so-called “Puritans” themselves were exiled from England, but saw this religious colony as a model of an ideology that they believed all of Europe should adopt.

The early Colonists had misinterpreted a verse in the Bible from Psalms, “2:8. “Ask of me, and I shall give thee, the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession,” to summarily declare god their real estate agent on this continent, and later overseas as Boers seized South Africa and the Zionists seized Palestine.

Slavery, disease and war against the natives became the order of the day, of the time, of the era. Among many other instances, at Pequot village on the Mystic River, the Puritan Colonists' implementation of their “divine” rule proceeded to trade, enslave and massacre and burn the natives alive and take control of the land, all under the “guidance” and “sufficient light from the word of God for our proceedings.”

It was slavery of the Native American during the 1630's that the British exploited first, before the exponential slave trade of Africans began. How many of us knew this bit of “his” story that is not taught in US schools?

Islam as Ideology takes advantage of no man, tribe, or nation. It does not trade, enslave, massacre nor war against any person, people, or nation. If illness is spread Muslims are ordered to stay among the sick to treat, cure and help prevent and not spread the disease. Masonic President George Washington called for a national celebration of the day as he forged a capitalist society that took advantage of anyone who was not European. Years later Abraham Lincoln made the day a legal holiday as he sent troops to suppress the Sioux in Minnesota.

As for Al-Qur'an being misinterpreted by non-Muslims in prohibiting Muslims from befriending them, Allah (s.w.t.) says, “As for such [of the unbelievers] as do not fight against you on account of [your] faith, and neither drive you forth from your homelands, God does not forbid you to show them kindness and to behave towards them with full equity: for, verily, God loves those who act equitably. God only forbids you to turn in friendship towards such as fight against you because of [your] faith, and drive you forth from your homelands, or aid [others] in driving you forth: and as for those [from among you] who turn towards them in friendship; it is they, they who are truly wrongdoers!" (Al Qur'an 60:8,9).

Muslims give “thanks” to Allah every single moment of our lives, from the moment we go to sleep to when we recite the Du'aa upon wakening; to every action throughout our day. There is some small prayer we can recite praising Our Creator for everything we do, for just being alive. Allah Provides, Islam Guides, Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w.) shows us how. Muslims have no need for “Thanksgiving” once a year when we give thanks to Allah every day.

What began as a "religious" celebration has transformed into the national and cultural norm. Everyone click on the following link. Educate yourselves on the real story behind “Thanksgiving,” and not “his” story. Muslims when you do go, ask your non-Muslim family and friends do they really know what happened back then.

We will get invited; some of us will go; and some of us won't go to such "dinners." If we do, I feel it should be with a heavy heart. Our true "family" is our family of believers. As Muslims we have Allah and His Deen of Islam to follow:

"If you disbelieve - indeed, Allah is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts." (Al-Qur'an 39:7)

    And

"...This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion..." (Al-Qur'an 5:3)

Let us remind ourselves to Fear Allah first, Seek His Forgiveness, and seek Allah's Guidance as we provide and try to give Da'wah to Allah, the Sunnah of Rasul'Allah and, the Deen of Islam.
